LISTEN, HEAR AND TRUST

"The most important tool the artist fashions through constant practice is faith in his ability to produce miracles when they are needed."
Mark Rothko

In order to create anything, you must listen to your heart, hear what it has to say and trust it. (Technical skill, a great idea, interesting subject matter and your materials, aside).

I believe this involves doing what feeds your artistic soul. Doing what makes you happy and brings you joy. Being involved in the joy of creation everyday. Doing what fills you up with gratitude. Doing what challenges you and allows you to learn. And most of all, doing what you are passionate about.

All the while, loving the search. No matter what. After all, art is all about the search for answers. Yes?

Ask yourself, "What can I not get enough of?" And then do that. Over and over. Again and again.

Have faith in your ability to create what you want to be able to create. Eventually.

I think the way to really listen to your heart is by doing.

Best,

David
