VAN GOGH'S HEART

"What am I in the eyes of most people, a nonentity, an eccentric, or an unpleasant person…I should one day like to show by my work what such an eccentric, such a nobody, has in his heart."

~Vincent Van Gogh

After reading this quote, I am thinking about creating a painting called "Van Gogh's Heart".

And, speaking of hearts, coincidentally, before I found this quote, I started painting some small heart paintings. I am in the process of trying to figure out what I am going to create next, having just completed one of the biggest and most important shows of my life. It has been two months of down time in the studio (with the exception of the heart paintings) and it is time to get going. I have many ideas, so I am trying lots of things until something really grabs ahold of me. And it will.

The above quote by Van Gogh reminds me that creativity is about passion, courage and tenacity (among other things). All traits that Van Gogh had in abundance.

Fear, self-doubt, frustration and disappointment are also a part of the equation for an artist. Also traits that Van Gogh had in abundance. Know that these are inevitable, accept them, and create anyway. Van Gogh did.

Choose passion, courage, tenacity and focus on what is in your heart.

Best,

David
