“Art is not always about pretty things, it’s about who we are, what happened to us and how our lives are affected.”
Elizabeth Broun, Director of the Smithsonian American Art Museum in Washington, D.C.

Respond and Create

Your creativity will be much more meaningful and powerful if you work with subjects, ideas, concepts, techniques and materials that you respond to.

The quality of your work is most definitely related to your passion about these things. as well as, the intensity with which you engage in the process of creating.

The quality of your work will be directly related to your involvement with what you are creating.

For instance: I am over-the-moon passionate about re-inventing and re-creating the figure, line quality (especially scribbling), value contrast (the darker the better), dripping paint, and layering my mediums and materials.

I am convinced that being passionate about these things, as well as, being engaged with the process, helps me to be a better, happier, more productive and more focused artist.

If you are currently struggling with your creativity, take some time to think about what really gets your motor running when it comes to art making.

And then head in that direction with passion, intensity and joy. And see what happens.

If you need guidance and clarity with your creative life, I know an excellent coach and mentor. {Smile}. Check him and his offerings out here.

Best,

David
