STAY PUT

David Limrite-Artist, Coach, Mentor, Teacher

“I think people who are not artists often feel that artists are inspired. But if you work at your art you don’t have time to be inspired. Out of the work comes the work.”

~John Cage

It’s one thing to get yourself out to the studio or in front of the easel on a regular basis. It’s another thing to stay put long enough, once you're there, to make something happen.

You have ideas that need expressing. You have things that you want to create. You have stuff to make. You love the process of creating.

It’s time to focus. Concentrate. Settle in. And begin. And stay put. Try things. Accept. Reject. Adjust. Explore. Experiment. Change something. Move something around. Build up some layers. Refine something. Loosen up an area. Ask yourself, “What if?” and “Why Not?” And stay put. Play. Learn. Grow. Think. Dream.

Give yourself and your current creation the time you both need and deserve.

Do not clean up or tidy your studio. {Smile}. It’s fine just like it is. You know where everything is.

Do not allow yourself to get distracted. The mail can wait. Emails can wait. Twitter can wait. Facebook can wait. Instagram can wait. Phone calls can wait. Friends can wait. Your spouse can wait. Your kids can wait. Your pets can wait. (Unless, of course, there is an emergency).

Everything can wait.

This is your time.

Go create something. Anything.

Get out in that studio and stay put.

Best,

David
