"I find sometimes I may want to end up with subtlety, but I have to start out boldly. I think you have to exaggerate to get it across…. All I can say is that you have to lean over a little to the left, and overdo it a bit, and then come back into balance. That ever important balance."

~ Andrew Wyeth

Creative acts are born from a combination of personal passion and a willingness to show up and try. Nothing else matters. Take action in spite of fear or anxiety and be amazed at what happens. Start from a place where anything is possible and then be willing to change. It's imperative that you attempt to create, no matter what. Whether you feel like it that day or not.

Some days you will have to get out of your own way, so that whatever it is that wants to be painted, can use you to paint it. You must try to find a "WAY IN" to your painting. And the only way I know how to do that is to show up, work, try things, take risks, make mistakes, adjust and try again.

It helps that you choose and work on a project that excites you. One that you are passionate about. One that gets your juices flowing. One that you are willing to take risks for.

Ignore your doubts and fears, and focus on the art to be made.

As I said at the end of the video last week: "It's not what we create, it's that we create."

Best,

David
